How to choose elastic rubber joint materials

How to choose elastic rubber joint materials

When selecting elastic rubber joint materials, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as specific usage scenarios, medium characteristics, temperature, pressure, and cost. The following are specific suggestions:

1. Select according to medium characteristics
Oil resistance requirements: If the conveying medium is oil, nitrile rubber (NBR) should be selected. It has excellent oil resistance and can effectively resist the erosion of oil media to ensure long-term and stable operation of the joint.
Corrosion resistance requirements: For corrosive media such as strong acids and strong alkalis, fluororubber (FKM) is an ideal choice. It has excellent chemical corrosion resistance and can maintain good performance in harsh corrosive environments.
High temperature resistance requirements: When the operating temperature is high, silicone rubber (VMQ) is a suitable choice. It has excellent high temperature resistance and can be used for a long time in high temperature environments without performance degradation.
General medium requirements: If the conveying medium is ordinary water, air, etc., natural rubber (NR) is a more economical choice. It has good elasticity and wear resistance and can meet general use requirements.
2. Choose according to the working temperature
Low temperature environment: If the working temperature is low, ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) should be selected. It can still maintain good elasticity and flexibility at low temperatures and will not become hard or brittle due to low temperatures.
High temperature environment: For high temperature environments, in addition to silicone rubber, fluororubber can also be used at higher temperatures, but the cost is relatively high.
3. Choose according to working pressure
High pressure conditions: In high-pressure pipeline systems, rubber materials with higher strength and pressure resistance should be selected, such as chloroprene rubber (CR), which has better strength and pressure resistance and can withstand higher pressure.
Low pressure conditions: For low-pressure pipeline systems, the above-mentioned suitable rubber materials, such as natural rubber, nitrile rubber, etc., can be selected according to the characteristics of the medium.
4. Choose according to cost factors
Low cost requirements: If you are more sensitive to cost, you can choose recycled rubber or rubber materials with slightly worse performance on the premise of meeting basic use requirements, but you should note that their service life and performance may be relatively low.
High cost requirements: For occasions with high performance and quality requirements, such as high-end industrial equipment, important pipeline systems, etc., high-quality rubber materials such as fluororubber and silicone rubber should be selected. Although the cost is high, it can ensure the long-term stability and reliability of the joint.
V. Other considerations
Elasticity requirements: If there are high requirements for elasticity, natural rubber or styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) can be selected. They have good elastic properties and can effectively absorb vibration and impact.
Wear resistance requirements: For occasions with high wear resistance requirements, such as pipeline systems for conveying granular media, butyl rubber (IIR) can be selected, which has good wear resistance.
Environmental protection requirements: If there are requirements for environmental protection, degradable or environmentally friendly rubber materials should be selected to reduce the impact on the environment.
