Use environment and medium of PTFE hose
PTFE hose (polytetrafluoroethylene hose) is widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, food, electronics and other fields due to its excellent corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, low friction coefficient and good insulation performance. However, the following matters should be noted during use to ensure its safety and service life:
1. Use environment and medium
Medium compatibility
PTFE hose has excellent tolerance to most chemical media (such as strong acids, strong alkalis, organic solvents), but it should avoid contact with molten alkali metals (such as sodium, potassium), fluorides and certain halogen compounds, which may destroy the structure of PTFE.
When transporting high-temperature media, it is necessary to confirm whether the media will decompose or react with the inner wall of the hose (such as certain highly active chemicals).
Temperature range
The applicable temperature of standard PTFE hose is -60℃ to +260℃, but it needs to be adjusted according to specific working conditions:
Short-term high temperature (such as steam sterilization) requires confirmation of the temperature resistance limit of the material.
The flexibility of the hose needs to be evaluated in low temperature environments to avoid brittleness and rupture.
Pressure limit
The working pressure of the hose should be lower than 1/3 to 1/4 of its rated burst pressure. For details, please refer to the supplier's data.
Dynamic working conditions (such as vibration and pulse) need to reduce the pressure to avoid fatigue damage.
2. Installation and connection
Avoid mechanical damage
Prevent the hose from twisting, stretching or excessive bending during installation. The bending radius should be ≥ 5 times the outer diameter of the hose.
It is forbidden to use metal tools to directly contact the hose surface to prevent scratching the lining.
Connection method selection
It is recommended to use flanges, clamps or special connectors to avoid threaded connections (easy to damage the inner wall).
The connection parts must ensure sealing. It is recommended to use PTFE sealing gaskets or perfluoroether O-rings.
Fixation and support
The hose needs to be fixed by a bracket or buckle to avoid suspension or self-weight sagging causing stress concentration.
Under vibration conditions, a shock absorber needs to be added to prevent fatigue fracture of the hose.
3. Operation and maintenance
Pressure and temperature monitoring
Install pressure gauges and temperature sensors to monitor working parameters in real time to avoid over-limit operation.
Sudden temperature changes (such as rapid cooling from high temperature) may cause the hose to shrink and deform, so it is necessary to cool down slowly.
Regular inspection
Appearance inspection: Check the hose surface for cracks, bulges, hardening or color changes every month.
Leak test: Confirm the sealing through pressure holding test or gas detector.
Life management: It is recommended to replace the hose every 1-3 years according to the frequency of use and environmental conditions.
Cleaning and storage
Use neutral detergent and soft cloth when cleaning, and avoid mechanical scrubbing.
For long-term storage, keep the hose dry and away from light, and avoid contact with grease and metal powder.
IV. Safety and emergency treatment
Leak response
When a leak is found, stop operation immediately, isolate the leaking area, and replace the hose after wearing protective equipment.
When the leaking medium is toxic or corrosive, the emergency plan must be activated and reported to the environmental protection department.
Scrap standard
The following situations require immediate scrapping:
The inner wall is obviously worn or corroded;
The hose is permanently deformed (such as local expansion);
The maximum service life or number of times specified by the supplier is reached.
V. Other considerations
Regulatory compliance: When used in food, medicine and other fields, it is necessary to confirm that the hose complies with FDA, USP Class VI or EU 1935/2004 and other standards.
Supplier support: Give priority to suppliers who provide technical documents such as material data sheets (MDS) and pressure-temperature curves, and obtain application guidance regularly.
